1. Are you sure you know where everything is?

(Mr. Williams, the grocer, is going away. He leaves Jane to look after the shop.)

WilliamsNow, are you sure, Jane, you know where everything is?
JaneYes, Mr. Williams. I'll be all right.
Williams The peas, for example?
JaneThey're on the third shelf, on the left.
Williams And the sugar?
JaneThat's here, on the right, on the second shelf.
Williams Ah, but ... 
JaneAnd there's some more under the counter.
Williams Good. You remembered.
JaneOf course I remembered.
WilliamsAll right, then. I'll go now. I'll be back tomorrow morning.
JaneAll right.
WilliamsOh — did I tell you where the milk is?
JaneYes, three times. It's on the left, near the door.
WilliamsGood. And if you need some more this afternoon, ... 
JaneI can get it from the County Dairy, in South Street, opposite the church. Their telephone number is in your little book.
WilliamsAll right, Jane. Cheerio, then.

JaneIt's in your room, behind the clock.

2. He works at Sellmores, in the Men's department on the third floor.

JaneOh, bother!
Mrs. BraithwaiteMr. Williams isn't here today. His aunt died.
SylviaBut where's Jane Saunders? She's probably with her boyfriend. Boyfriend!
Mrs. BraithwaiteWho's her boyfriend?
SylviaYou know him, Michael Barnes. He works at Sellmores, in the Men's department on the third floor.
Mrs. BraithwaiteAt Sellmores?
SylviaYes. He lives in Sefton Road, on the left, next to the school.
Mrs. BraithwaiteOh, yes.
SilviaHe always looks terrible. He doesn't know how to dress. Still, Jane isn't much better, is she? Oh, hello.
JaneHello, Sylvia. Hello, Mrs. Braithwaite.

JaneUnder there.
Mrs. BraithwaiteWe want a tin of cat food, please.
JaneCat food. On the fourth shelf on the right. Fifty pence please, Mrs. Braithwaite. Is it for your dinner, Sylvia? I hope you enjoy it.

3. The customer is always right!

MikeHello. Had a good day?
JaneHello, Mike. Yes, not bad. Welcome to Williams' store, the best shop in town. On my left, on the third shelf, tins of peas. On the fourth shelf— tins of beans, tins of carrots! Over here on my right, ladies and gentlemen, on the second shelf, sugar.
MikeAll right. That's enough.
Jane I know where everything is, you see.
MikeWell, find the key of the shop, then. It's a quarter to six. We're meeting Bob and Cathy at six.
JaneAll right. Just a minute.
MikeWe're meeting them outside the snack bar in South Street.
JaneWhy outside it? Why not inside?
MikeI don't know. Bob said outside.
JaneBy the way, Sylvia Braithwaite was in here today.
MikeOh yes, ... 
JaneShe said you always look terrible—you don't know how to dress.
MikeDid she? Well, what did you say?

JaneI'll get the shop keys. They're in Mr. Williams' room, behind the cupboard door.
MikeWhat's that?
JaneA note from Mr. Williams. "Jane—do you know where the tins of fruit are? If you do—look behind them."
MikeWell—do you know where the tins of fruit are?
JaneOf course! On the second shelf on the right.
MikeGo on then. Look behind them.
